Death rate dating violence

The latest figures from the Crime Survey for England and Wales show little change in the prevalence of domestic abuse in recent years. In the year ending March 2018, an estimated 2.0 million adults aged 16 to 59 years experienced domestic abuse in the last year (1.3 million women, 695,000 men).

Back to table of contents This statistical bulletin brings together data on domestic abuse to enable appropriate action to be taken to improve victims’ experiences of the criminal justice process.Data can be based on offences, victims, suspects or defendants and can also vary in the way that cases are identified. These factors, together with the time lag between the stages in the criminal justice process, mean that each section in this bulletin does not refer to the same cohort of cases and so direct comparisons cannot be made across sections. The different data sources included in this report highlight how agencies within the criminal justice system and service sector respond to victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse. These data sources should be viewed in their entirety since each agency’s response to domestic abuse is, in part, influenced by activity at other stages.
